• How to use.
37thResEx 1.2.0 is an application for extracting resources from files. It has two modes:
√...Mode 1: Drag&Drop (automatic extraction).
After dragging on one or more files, a window will notify if resources of type 'snd ', 'TEXT', 'XCMD','XFCN','PICT', 'ppat', 'ICON' and icon family ('ICN#','ics#','icl4' etc.) exist:
You may quit or continue to analyze more dragged files. Instead, if you check a "resource check box", then the "Cancel" button changes its name to "Extract", so you can extract the resources you want.
37thResEx 1.2.0, in Drag&Drop mode, extracts all the resources of selected types. You can move the extracted resources into an existing file (selecting "Add to file") or in a new one. With "Add to file" option checked, 37thResEx 1.2.0 creates the "unique ID" automatically.
Files created by 37thResEx 1.2.0 are named: "[resType]ID[ID]" and saved in a new folder named: "37th[resType].ƒ->[source name]". If a folder with the same name already exists (?!) 37thResEx 1.2.0 saves the files outside that folder, and if files with the same name already exist outside that folder (?!?!) 37thResEx 1.2.0 overwrites them (at last!!).
All created files have type 'rsrc' and creator 'RSED', except files containing 'snd ' resources, which have type "sfil" ad creator "movr" (to play them by double-clicking...) and files containing 'TEXT' resources which have type 'TEXT" ad creator "ttxt" (to open them by a Text Editor...)
All the resources in the new files maintain original ID and name, except icon families (because these files, created by 37thResEx 1.2.0, will show such icon on the desktop, so you can copy/cut the icon from 'Get Info' window).
When 37thResEx 1.2.0, in scanning files, finds resources of type 'TEXT', it looks also for related 'styl' resources. In case of icon families, first searches a resource of type 'ICN#', and then related ones...
37thResEx 1.2.0, in Drag&Drop mode, works fine and fast in background...
Note: while 37thResEx 1.2.0, in Drag&Drop mode, is the foreground application, you can press escape or command-period to exit during its performance. Instead if 37thResEx 1.2.0 is the background application you can use only escape key to stop its job.
When 37thResEx 1.2.0, in Drag&Drop mode, completes the extraction from a file, if it's in background, and if another file is queueing, then 37thResEx 1.2.0 attempts to call back your attention, by a simple notification procedure. If you do nothing or are working with another application, after a brief waiting time (about 30 seconds), it stops the notification procedure and, simply, waits you.
√...Mode 2: Application (custom extraction).
After launching 37thResEx 1.2.0 by double clicking its icon, you can choose a file by button or menu item "File to scan". The name of the file will show in the main window while, in menu "Resource type", all its resources will show. From this menu you can select a resource type: this will be shown in the "Resource type" field of the main window. The menu "Resource ID" will show the ID numbers of all existing resources of chosen type, and selecting an ID it will show in the main window, with the resource name. Now you can extract the resource (!). If you move the extracted resource in a new file, you can assign type & creator to the file itself, while if you add it to an existing file, the "Unique ID" option is available.
Be careful:
If "unique ID" is not checked and, in the destination file, a resource of same type with same ID exists, the file will be damaged.
37thResEx 1.2.0 copies all resource attributes except 'Protect', because to copy it would damage the destination file. 37thResEx 1.2.0 sets all related resource attributes as main.
37thResEx 1.2.0 supports the dragging of multiple files. It requires at least System 7 to run.

My software development group is made up by: me :-/
On the other hand, my beta-tester group is made up by: me :-(
This means that if you find a bug, both developer and beta-tester groups would greatly appreciate your reporting ;-)
And don't forget to register your copy of 37thResEx 1.2.0. Remember that a shareware author should be supported. If you don’t pay for shareware software today, you will pay much more tomorrow for exactly the same features (but enclosed in a 'nice' commercial box, with a 'friendly' copy protection and an 'attractive' serial number...).
